Join Us for Worship

If you’re new and are interested in getting to know us better, then the best way to do that is to come and worship with us! We gather for worship at 9:30AM on Sunday mornings at Newell Christian Chapel, located at 235 Lamarque St., Mandeville, LA 70448.

What should you expect on Sunday mornings?

The structure and order of our worship is the same from week to week. We sing hymns together, pray corporate prayers together, participate in responsive readings, hear the Word of God preached, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper, and we do these things every Sunday that we gather. We would love to have you join us in this time of worship!

What to expect

Every Sunday our Church gathers for worship

Singing Hymns

We see throughout the Old and New Testaments God instructing his people to sing songs and hymns remembering and celebrating the wonderful works that God has done, and so we sing biblically-faithful hymns—ancient, traditional, and contemporary—when we gather.

Corporate Prayers and Responsive Readings

We pray corporate prayers together because St. Paul instructs us to be of one mind and one heart, and praying the same prayers together helps us to do that. We have responsive readings because worship is not a one-man show. Worship is for everyone, and responsive readings help everyone to participate in the reading of Scripture and the worship of the Lord.

Biblical Preaching

Our preaching centers on the Word of God, which we take to be the Holy Scriptures, composed of the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament. Whether Father Andrew is preaching straight through a book, or books, of the Bible, on a doctrinal or ethical topic, or on the passages provided by the lectionary, you can expect that the Bible will be at the front and center of every sermon.

Weekly Communion

We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every week because we are a church that intends to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament. This means that we equally prioritize both the proper preaching and teaching of the Word each week and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, where we commune with the Lord and his church universal. Through the preaching of the Word and the reception of his holy Supper, we encounter the Lord Jesus every Sunday in a very real and intimate way. We practice open Communion, so all baptized persons, including small children, who are in good standing with God and neighbor are welcome at the Lord’s Table. We do not require confirmation for participation, only Baptism.

Kids Welcome

Jesus instructs us in the Gospels to suffer not the little children to come to him. Following his instruction, children are welcome to participate in the Divine Service with the adults every Sunday. We do not have a separate “children’s church” because we believe that worshipping together as a family is crucial for the discipleship of our children, who are the future of the church. Whether your children are in their teens or are newborns, we welcome all children to worship with us—especially the fussy and crying ones!

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question you don't see below? Feel free to send us a message, and we would love to connect with you.

Where do I park?

We have a small parking lot that some cars can park in between the church and the parsonage. You can also park on the grass in front of the church, and in the grass in front of the parsonage next door (the white shotgun house). Street parking is available on Lamarque St. Please don’t block the driveways of our awesome neighbors!

Is there a dress code?

There is no dress code. We only ask that everyone dress modestly so as not to be a distraction to anyone as we worship.

Is there something for my kids?

We do not have separate programs such as “children’s church” on Sunday morning. The reason for this is that we emphasize the importance of family worship and growing in Christ together as a family. As we grow, we plan to introduce special activities for children  that don’t take place on Sunday mornings, such as Vacation Bible School, youth activities, and the like.
